No site that covers travel would be complete without a write up of Paris, one of the most culturally significant cities on the planet. With our avant-garde ZINVO Blade watches by our side, we take to the streets of this magnificent destination.
The city of romance, the City of Light, and the fashion capital of the world, Paris is unparalleled. Home to such famed monuments as the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe, the Basilica of Sacré-Cœur, the Notre Dame Cathedral, the Louvre, and the Moulin Rouge, it’s no wonder that this city is the world’s number one tourist destination.
With a history that begins in the third century BCE, Paris has a rich heritage that resonates throughout the city to this very day. Whether you’re into art, food, fashion, film, philosophy, romance languages, or even watchmaking, Paris has it all. For a weekend trip or a long sojourn, this is an unmissable place and should be part of everyone’s bucket list and the following are just a few must-sees of France’s capital.
The Eiffel Tower
The building of the Eiffel Tower began in 1887 and ended in 1889 in order to be ready for the World’s Fair hosted in Paris that year. Today, this structure is one of the most recognisable in the world, as well as the most visited paid monument globally. Despite its world renown today, initially the Eiffel Tower was criticised for its design by the country’s foremost artists and thinkers. This unmistakable wrought iron tower, however, has stood the test of time and well over 250 million visitors have ascended its storeys since it first opened.
The perfect place to snap a panorama of Paris, standing at 324 metres, the Eiffel Tower is still the tallest structure in the city—indeed, at 276 metres, the tower’s observation deck is the highest publicly accessible platform in the European Union. The Eiffel Tower actually boasts three different levels for visitors, and its first two floors also include restaurants should you wish to grab a bite on your way up or down. Gorgeous pictures can also be taken from the ground level as the Eiffel Tower is surrounded by the beautiful Champ de Mars green space, as can be seen here behind our ZINVO Blade Gunmetal.
The world's largest museum, the Louvre, also calls Paris its home. Centrally located in the 1st arrondissement, this museum was first opened in 1793 and houses approximately 35,000 objects that date from prehistory to today. With an exhibition area of over 72,735 metres-squared, to do this place justice, days of visiting are required. As the second most visited museum in the world (after China’s Palace Museum), many come to the Louvre to see such masterpieces as Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, Alexandros of Antioch’s Venus de Milo, and Caravaggio’s Death of the Virgin, as well as works by such revered artists as Johannes Vermeer, Jacques-Louis David, Hieronymus Bosch, and Raphael.
Another landmark many come to Paris to see is the stunning Louvre Pyramid. This large glass and metal structure, which appears in the backdrop of our ZINVO Blade Gunmetal, serves as the main entrance to the museum and — along with the Carrousel du Louvre’s Inverted Pyramid — was made even more famous following Dan Brown’s The Da Vinci Code.
No popular tourist destination is complete without an amusement park and Paris has one of the very best: Disneyland Paris. The only Disneyland in Europe, Disneyland Paris (once known as Euro Disney), is located just 32 kilometres east of the city’s centre and is the most visited tourist attraction in all of France.
Opened in 1992, this resort encompasses two theme parks, fourteen hotels, a golf course, a railway station, a shopping village, and the large Val d’Europe Shopping Mall. And much like its Californian counterpart, Disneyland Paris also has such classic attractions as It’s a Small World, Space Mountain, Big Thunder Mountain, and Pirates of the Caribbean.
If you’re looking for a fun-filled day of modern pleasures after visiting some of the most historic sites in the world, this is definitely the answer. Open to the young and the young-at-heart, Disneyland has something for everyone — just look at how nicely our ZINVO Blade Silver fits into the colourful and fun setting.
One of the first places that come to mind when you think of global cities, Paris has a depth and breadth that’s simply astounding. Not only is this metropolis gorgeous to behold, it also has diverse and vibrant scenes regardless of what you’re into. Certainly one of our absolute favourite destinations, we know that there are only two positions with regard to this city: those planning to go and those planning to go back.
